Kurta Measurement
Kurta Measurement
Taking accurate measurements for a kurta (a traditional South Asian loose-fitting shirt) is crucial to ensure a well-fitted garment. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to measure for a kurta
What You'll Need:
- Flexible Measuring Tape: Use a soft, flexible measuring tape for accurate measurements.
- Assistant (Optional): While you can take most measurements on your own, having someone assist can improve accuracy.
Kurta Measurement Steps
Chest/Bust
Wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of your chest, ensuring it passes under your armpits and across your shoulder blades. Keep your arms relaxed at your sides.
Waist
Hips
Measure around the fullest part of your hips and buttocks.
Shoulder width
Measure from the edge of one shoulder to the other, across the back. Ensure the tape is positioned on the top of your shoulder where the kurta’s shoulder seams would typically lie.
Sleeve length
With your arm slightly bent at the elbow, measure from the shoulder point to the wrist. This is the sleeve length.
Kurta length
Measure from the highest point of your shoulder to the desired length of the kurta. Common lengths include just above the knee, knee-length, or calf-length.
Collar size
Measure around the base of your neck where the collar of the kurta will sit. Make sure you can comfortably fit two fingers between your neck and the tape.
Kurta bottom opening
Measure around the bottom hem of the kurta. This measurement ensures that the kurta has the desired width at the bottom.
Kurta side slit (if applicable)
If the kurta has side slits, measure from the bottom hem to the desired slit length.
Bicep (if applicable)
Measure around the fullest part of your bicep, especially if the kurta has fitted sleeves.
Additional Tips:
- Relax While Measuring: Keep your body in a natural and relaxed posture while taking measurements. Don’t pull the tape too tight.
- Use a Full-Length Mirror: This helps you ensure the tape is positioned correctly and straight for accurate measurements.
Once you have your measurements, you can use them to choose the right size or provide custom measurements when ordering a tailored kurta. Always refer to specific sizing guides provided by the brand or tailor for the best fit.
